Match the Material to the Medium and Line Duty

Structure and Control
Compact, True Union, Flanged, Pneumatic, or Electric?
The valve structure should follow the maintenance plan, pipe connection, operating frequency, and control requirement. A lower-cost structure can become more expensive when it does not allow convenient removal, replacement, or automation.
Compact Ball Valve
Works well for simple shutoff, limited installation space, irrigation, general water piping, and equipment positions where the lowest initial cost matters. Choose another structure when the valve needs regular removal or in-line maintenance.
True Union Ball Valve
Fits equipment inlet and outlet lines, pump systems, filters, dosing skids, chemical branches, and maintenance points where the valve should be removed without cutting the pipe. Confirm union standard, fixed-lock requirement, and available nut clearance.
Flanged Ball Valve

Common Selection Errors
Five Problems to Catch Before the Purchase Order
01.Selecting by size only. Pipe size does not confirm chemical compatibility, pressure rating, temperature limit, connection standard, or seal life.
02.Checking the valve body but not the seal. EPDM and Viton do not perform the same way in every chemical. Confirm the medium, concentration, temperature, and expected replacement interval. Review the EPDM vs Viton guide.
03.Using a compact valve where maintenance access is required. A true union structure is usually more practical when pumps, filters, instruments, or equipment need regular servicing.
04.Requesting an ON/OFF actuator for proportional control. Flow adjustment requires a modulating actuator, control signal, operating range, and process target. A standard electric shutoff valve does not provide the same control.
05.Providing normal pressure but not peak pressure. Pump starts, valve closing, elevation changes, and water hammer can create short pressure peaks that affect valve configuration and service life.
